Mrs. April Cummings
My name is April Cummings, and I am delighted to serve as Johnson Elementary's principal. For those who I have yet to meet, I have served the past six years as the school's assistant principal. I am a proud graduate of Floyd County Schools, the University of Georgia, Lincoln Memorial University, and Berry College.
At JES, we are proud of the rich traditions and educational accomplishments of our students, faculty, and community. We strive to ensure our children experience an environment focused on high expectations that reflect both academic and social and emotional development. I am especially motivated to sustain this positive culture of success and kindness within our school community.
Our students begin their academic years surrounded by highly skilled and dedicated faculty and staff. Their instructional opportunities are developed by professionals who are committed to investing in a culture of excellence and respect. The education your child receives at Johnson Elementary is built on daily routines that encourage children to shine. It is easy to see why Johnson Elementary School is a recipient of the 2010 and 2020 National Blue Ribbon Awards, as well as serving as a Distinguished PBIS school. We will continue to set high expectations for our learners and celebrate their achievements throughout their journey to excellence and success!
I began my teaching career in 1991, teaching as a classroom teacher of kindergarten, first grade, and second through third grade as a gifted education teacher, all within Floyd County Schools. I have served as Johnson Elementary's Assistant Principal since 2017. As I look to the year ahead, I am excited about the opportunities that await our students. I am dedicated to helping pave a strong foundation of success for our young learners by providing academically challenging educational programs, supporting student guidance for personal growth, and ensuring a safe and enriching environment in which to learn. My goal is to ensure that students and our Johnson families have the best possible experience during their time at JES. I am honored and grateful to have the opportunity to continue to serve our wonderful school community as your principal.
Shine Bright, JES!
It's great to be a Johnson Wildcat!
